Full Details of the coming Apple TV

After meeting with some media companies and Apple, the Wall Street Journal published a long report about Apple TV. It says in this report that Apple have appointed a Senior Vice President of Internet Services, Eddy Cue, who is the biggest supporter to this device, his experience with music label and studio is quite important for Apple to create iTV(the rumors call Apple TV to be iTV)

It is said that the founder of iTunes, Jeff Robbin, has held up Apple’s TV project. The Apple’s newest technology is to recognize users across iPhone, iPad, Apple TV.

The following is the relative details about Apple TV:

The report says that Apple TV’s technology in the future would respond to users’ voices and movements, the users can search or change channels via Siri. Its wireless technology AirPlay will also to be used in Apple’s TVs, it has some difference from the AirPlay nowadays. The users can put the videos on mobile devices onto the TV, but some companies, like Time Warner Inc radio station HBO wouldn’t like to user this technology to its applications, because HBO wants to control the appearance ways of its contents by itself.

The report also says that the late co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs had been for the Apple TV being controlled by other iOS devices, such as iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, to realize its personalized services.

Apple Will Launch a New iMac with TV Capability

Apple Will Launch a New iMac with TV Capability

Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair asserted to the investors that before an Apple HDTV is unveiled, Apple will first launch an all-in-one iMac with built-in TV capabilities, which would be the path for Apple to enter into TV market.

He believes that Apple will redesign a new iMac with built-in TV capabilities in the 2012 first half, Apple TV software and iCloud access could be built into an all-in-one iMacs. Blair writes in his report:” We think this makes sense. Usually we can only talk about a new big size television, Apple could effectively start with what they already have on the manufacturing line and slowly push their offering from 27 inches and scale up from there to 32 inches and then move on to the 42, 50 and 55 inch market.”

Blair forecasted in September that Apple launch only one new iPhone this year, and it is quite similar to iPhone 4. There has been widespread speculation about Apple TV. But the only hint we can get is “the simplest user interface”, which has been mentioned in the new Steve Jobs biography. But what is the simplest user interface? That is no button, it is to control by voice. So most of analysts firmly believe that Apple TV will be designed with built-in Siri voice recognition technology, give up the traditional TV remote with many buttons.

The following are the details we include from Muster:

1. The current TV is an external device, you have to plug into a TV set and you can watch the TV, but Apple TV is completely different from the current TV, it is a stand-alone TV.

2. Why Apple launch a TV set not external gadgets, because Apple think people hate plugging external gadgets into their TVs.(It is true, but are people willing to spend much money on a Apple TV to avoid external gadgets?)

3.  Apple TV is quite different from other TVs with a range of sizes, which will appeal to young Apple fanatics who can’t afford or don’t have enough room for a 50-inch flat screen TV.

4. Apple TV will cost twice as much as the common TVs in the market, for example, a certain TV sells for $800, but Apple TV may cost $1600. (If so, Apple will get high profit).

5. Munster said Apple would be popular because it will work with other Apple devices perfectly. It will come with a standard remote, and it can be controlled will iPhone and iPad via Siri. The users also can download games and content, etc.

6. Apple TV will be the first TV that does what you want , for instance, if you need a certain TV channel, it will adjust automatically.

7.  The users have to prepare wired TV or adapter junction boxes, because Apple TVs don’t have enough contents. Even so, users only have to plug it to the Apple TVs.

8. Munsterbelieves Apple will launch its TVs in 2012 to catch the holiday sales season.

Apple need an actual TV set, not a cheap TV set-top box

Apple need an actual TV set, not a cheap TV set-top box

Earlier one year ago, there were rumors that Apple planed to develop TV sets. At the latest, the issue of Steve.Jobs gives us a hint that there exits Apple’s TVs, what’s more, it makes a lot of guesses from many main newspaper and media. Some of specialists in this field predicted that Apple will launch TVs in 2013. An unborn product arouses many peoples’ interest and expectation, and only Apple can make it. At the same time, is there any people realize that isn’t the Apple TV set-top box good enough? Why Apple still need to develop TV sets?

Some people may say: an Apple TV set-top box is only $99, if this new product is launched, more people would like to buy it, theoretically speaking, again Apple is likely to overthrow the whole TVs industry. Steve.Jobs ever said that Apple TV was just a hobby comparing to the mobile phones and the computers. Such being the case, don’t you think Apple TV box is the best way for Apple to practice such hobbies? However, Apple is always out of our expectations, and we even can’t get its thinking and concept. Why Apple need an actual TV set?

Apple sells complete experiences, not only devices.

If you connect an Apple TV set-top box to other brands’ HD TVs, and then you watch video and play music, you will find it is almost the same to run Mac OS on the Dell’s lap-top computer. It works, but it’s not good experience for user and  that’s not the perfect style Apple has been pursuing.

Apple wants to be your primary interface.

The research shows that the American today watch TV over 5 hours everyday, It would be a big market if Apple develop an TV set with function of integrated game and searching, etc.In the long run, Apple’s ultimate goal is surely to be the heart, soul and brain of the living room culture. To watch video, download apps, play games or even use Siri to order pizza, the only thing you need to do is to remote control through the TV interface. In addition, more and more wired TV companies are deploying the IP-based service, which provides the chances for Apple to be the primary TV interface.

Apple sells tightly integrated software, hardware, and services.

For an simple example, If Apple wants to control Facetime calls and Siri voice I the living room. Is it going to sell the user an isight camera mic sticked on top of Vizio and at the same time connected to Apple TV box? Or is it going to make a TV set with HD cameras and high quality speakers? On the long run, my opinion is that the latter is most likely to happen.

Selling TVs could be the better business.

The main profit of Apple is by selling hardware, not by selling apps and rentals.Indeed, maybe it is more difficult and takes more time to sell ten million TV sets at $1000 than to sell ten millions TV set-top boxes at $100, but the gross profit of every TV set is much greater than every TV set-top box. As far as to now, Apple TV set-top box is not enough to be a separate business of Apple, but selling high-end TVs are very likely to be a leading business that will make a multi-billion-dollar business for Apple.

Expectations from outsiders seem to be insanely high to Apple’s TVs, but they shouldn’t be. Apple is not a leapfrogs company, it just makes great products by using its own formula. For example, The ipod was not big different from the other existing MP3 player. It just had a simple and easy to remember name applying simple user interface, better software and Apple’s constant cool factor. Similarly, an Apple TV may not be so different from today’s TVs, but it may combine the hardware, software, service like iCloud, new user interface like Siri with Apple’s perfect experience, which will set it apart from today’s TVs.
